John H. Baker III

John assumed the role of Executive Chairman of the Thompson Holdings Board of Directors in January 2025. Before that, John served as CEO of Thompson Holdings (2017-2024) and CEO of Thompson Engineering (2017-2023).

John considers creating a culture of ownership at the Thompson companies as one of his greatest leadership accomplishments, the results of which led to some of the company’s most profitable years.

As CEO, John executed the company’s vision and oversaw the development and implementation of the strategic plans and financial goals of the organization. John also served Thompson Engineering as President for 13 years. Before his role as President, John was Senior Vice-President of Thompson’s Water Resources Division, where he was responsible for the overall growth and development of the company’s marine design and waterfront development efforts.

John earned his DBIA professional certification in 2017 following decades of experience with integrated project delivery. John is responsible for selecting design-build partners and overseeing the delivery of design-build solutions.

John joined Thompson Engineering in July 1991 after beginning his career with the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers.

John is active in many professional organizations and civic groups. He currently serves as a director on the board of Branch. Former board involvement includes the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Alabama, where he served as Chairman in 2020 and 2021. John devotes much of his time to the Board of Directors for Infirmary Health Systems in Mobile and Thomas Hospital in Fairhope. Previous service includes Board of Directors for the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce, Alabama Governor’s Coastal Recovery Commission, and Board of Directors for the Alabama Council of Engineering Companies.
